A blog for Jared........Foods from the 80's

Jared and I were talking about food mom used to make a lot over his visit this past weekend. One thing I remembered was the Aunt Jemima Coffee cake!! Do you remember this, you just squished it in the bag and then put it in the disposable pan and called it a day!! I wonder if they still sell this..

Coffee Cake

Aunt Jemima® Coffee Cake Easy Mix lets you enjoy the homemade goodness of freshly baked coffee cake without the mess. Just mix the batter in the disposable bag and bake in the disposable tray. If your kids are helping out in the kitchen, try baking cake in the microwave

This got me thinking to a few other foods from the 80's...

How about Giggle cookies?

Remember Chicken Tonight?? " I feel like chicken tonight, like chicken tonight....i feel like chicken tonight!!! Remember the tune?

When we go to to the grocery store with mom, lots of times our treats were "Shake Ups!!"

Another favorite snack of mine...Tid Bits! And Micro Magic Fries!

remember Krispy Kritters cereal? I don't think I ever had it but I remember the song... "Krispy Kritters, the new wholesome crunch, a low fat cereal with lots of munch, its adoobely delicious"...or something like that anyway.

A few others:
HandiSnacks
Kid Cuisine
Great Starts breakfast sandwiches
Lunchabels

What else??

wow. great blog. i dont even know where to start!

apple fritters
OH's (cereal)
"Food CLub" brand products
Boboli
Slim Jim
Toaster Strudels
Chocolate Chip muffins from Shaws
Cookie Club cards
Morton's Honey Buns in the box
soft batch cookies (still made I think)

at foundry street, we had the "snack drawer" where you had to slide the metal cover off the drawer . . .this usually yielded lots of Food Club nachos and "Bachman" potato chips . . .and whatever else was 5 for a dollar

How about little Debbie snacks, eskimo bars, Italian ice, hoodsies and the pilsbury coffee rolls you bake and then frost. If you ate them right naway they were great, wait 30 mins. and they stunk.

My friend and I were recently discussing about how we as human beings are so hooked onto electronics. Reading this post makes me think back to that debate we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside... I just hope that as technology further advances, the possibility of uploading our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could experience in my lifetime.
